Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $149,983)

The SMART Office seeks to fund up to two fellowship positions focusing on enhancing its capacity to provide assistance and support to public or private colleges and universities on their response to, prevention of, and education about sexual violence and other sex offending behaviors on college campuses. Funding for this project is authorized under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016.

Joan Tabachnick will undertake the SMART FY 16 Sex Offender Management Fellowship Program in the area of campus sexual assault prevention and education. This Fellowship is intended to add to the current knowledge base and expand the opportunities to: 1) bridge the gaps between those who work with victims/survivors of sexual violence and those who work with offenders/perpetrators; 2) develop strategies to provide specialized education for multiple disciplines to address and promote prevention efforts; and 3) begin to document the research and evaluation of prevention strategies. Throughout the fellowship, particular attention will be paid to research, information and potential collaborations that include the SMART Office expertise as well as a reflecting a focus on preventing the perpetration of sexual assault. ca/ncf
