Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $398,976)

Funding will allow for the fulfillment of several initiatives that are fundamental to the management of the sex offender population in Michigan and to the maintenance of the public sex offender registry. MSP proposes funds be awarded to 1) maintain the quality assurance analyst, currently supported by the SMART grant, for an additional two years, to continue resolving discrepancies in offender records and ensuring accuracy in registry data; 2) retain the department technician, currently supported by SMART grant funds, for an additional year, to provide continued support in data cleansing, performing second party checks, and tracking registrants moving to and from Michigan; 3) establish a detailed training program with ample resources for users to accurately and efficiently navigate processes associated with the registry; and 4) purchase Accurint application licenses for the first three subscription years to provide access to a comprehensive database of public records around the nation to deliver real-time, confirmed, offender information which would be invaluable in the locating of absconders.
