Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2013, $825,563)
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 (AWA) (Pub. L. 109-248, 42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq) authorizes the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) to administer sex offender management grants. These grants assist state, local and tribal jurisdictions in developing and/or enhancing sex offender registration and notification programs that support substantial implementation of Title I of the AWA, known as the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders and offenders against children by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration of those offenders.
The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will provide ongoing support of the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), which includes supporting the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) Exchange Portal and the Tribe and Territory Sex Offender Registry System (TTSORS). The Institute for Intergovernmental Research's goal for this project is to focus on the successful achievement of their primary objectives: (1) continue to host, maintain, operate and improve NSOPW; (2) continue to host, maintain, operate, and improve the SORNA Exchange Portal; (3) continue to maintain, operate, host, and improve TTSORS; and (4)continue to maintain and improve a social media presence that promotes the education and prevention resources available through NSOPW. ca/ncf
