Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $196,278)
The Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management Training and Technical Assistance (CASOM) Grant Program, authorized by 42 U.S.C. 13941, supports training programs to assist probation officers, parole officers, and others who work with released sex offenders in the areas of case management, supervision and relapse prevention.
The Fort Peck Tribes will use grant funds to support: 1) training on compliance with legislative changes to include SORNA implementation at the State, Tribal and local level; 2) training on establishing a multi-disciplinary sex offender management team which will include registration, monitoring and apprehension units; 3) training on the implementation and use of monitoring equipment and other technologies. The CASOM Team will develop a protocol for assessing, treating and monitoring non-incarcerated sex offenders residing in reservation communities; develop a training module that is unique to Indian Country; and create a unique relationship and strategies with the state to develop and sustain a uniform registry that will address tribally convicted sex offenders access to register on state web registries.
