Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $200,000)

The Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management Training and Technical Assistance (CASOM) Grant Program, authorized by 42 U.S.C. 13941, supports training programs to assist probation officers, parole officers, and others who work with released sex offenders in the areas of case management, supervision and relapse prevention.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will develop and deliver training tools and technology targeted at uniform sex offender management practices and long-term sustainability. This project will ensure that underserved and under resourced county probation departments and parole officers acquire the expertise necessary to effectively supervise and manage sex offenders in the community. This will ensure a basic level of competence and consistency in the delivery of community supervision of sex offenders across New York State.
