The Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management Training and Technical Assistance (CASOM) Grant Program, authorized by 42 U.S.C. 13941, supports training programs to assist probation officers, parole officers, and others who work with released sex offenders in the areas of case management, supervision and relapse prevention.
Marion County will design and implement training and technical assistance to maximize compliance of partners with the requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), Title I, of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006. Components will include: review of best practices in other states/localities; multi-agency participation in annual SMART Symposiums; participation in other state-of-the-art training; trained trainers who will design and deliver training for all new recruits and veteran officers within the Marion County Sheriff's Department; technology based in-service training tools offered to all officers in the County; a new local conference with national, state, and local experts assembled to update/train all agencies/individuals specialized in sex offender management in Marion County as well as counties throughout Indiana.
