Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $200,000)

The Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management Training and Technical Assistance (CASOM) Grant Program, authorized by 42 U.S.C. 13941, supports training programs to assist probation officers, parole officers, and others who work with released sex offenders in the areas of case management, supervision and relapse prevention.
The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) will work on a comprehensive community-based approach to sex offender management on tribal reservation, on trust lands. This program will last 24 months. Program activities include creating a multidisciplinary team to oversee the program plan and develop a comprehensive plan for sex offender management on the Grand Traverse Band reservation and trust lands, providing SORNA compliant training to members on the multidisciplinary team, including the Probation Officer and Behavioral Health staff person, and also gathering and analyzing data related to the conviction of juvenile and adult sex offenders within the reservation boundaries of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
