Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $39,671)

The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 (AWA) (Pub. L. 109-248, 42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq) authorizes the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) to administer sex offender management grants. These grants assist state, local and tribal jurisdictions in implementing and/or enhancing sex offender registration and notification programs that support compliance with Title I of the AWA, known as the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders and offenders against children by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration of those offenders.

This project will assist in the development of the Quileute Tribe's sex offender registration, management, and community notification program by supporting activities that will promote the following goals: 1) establishment of a sex offender monitoring, management and community notification program through the development of policies, procedures, and codes; 2) enhancement of infrastructure through the purchasing of equipment for the collection, storage, and submission of sex offender biometric data and information sharing among tribal, state and federal agencies; and 3) training of Quileute Tribal law enforcement and Quileute Tribal Court personnel in sex offender registration, compliance, enforcement and management practices.
