Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $70,517)

The Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management Training and Technical Assistance (CASOM) Grant Program, authorized by 42 U.S.C. 13941, supports training programs to assist probation officers, parole officers, and others who work with released sex offenders in the areas of case management, supervision and relapse prevention.

Through the development of the Florida Sex Offender Registration Management and Compliance Training/Technical Assistance program, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will train law enforcement officials on effective sex offender management. These law enforcement officials include, but are not limited to, staff at local sheriff's offices, jails, police departments, parole/probation offices and State Attorney's offices. This statewide training program will provide instruction on effective management and registration of sex offenders; compliance with state laws and procedures as well as compliance with SORNA; and database maintenance instruction. The ability to conduct multi-jurisdictional and hands-on trainings within Florida's seven regions will provide the opportunity to highlight knowledge and strengthen sexual offender management, tracking, and inter-agency communication.
