Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $288,368)

The Mescalero Apache Tribe will use AWA funding to continue implementing SORNA by providing salary and fringe for a SORNA Compliance Officer and Administrative Assistant. The Compliance Officer will continue to register new sex offenders and ensure current offenders are in compliance with the Mescalero Apache Tribal Code and SORNA. Information collected will be documented through the Tribal Access Program, TTSORS and CJIS. Work and Home Compliance checks will continue to be conducted throughout the year to ensure compliance. A list of registered sex offenders will be posted at local schools and day cares, throughout the community and the Tribe’s official website with link directly to the TTSORS website. The Administrative Assistant will continue to assist by filing compliance checks, new sex offender registrations, submitting DNA on new offenders, converting paperwork to a digital filing system and assist as needed.
