Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $400,000)
The Pueblo of Acoma will use AWA grant funds to provide a culturally relevant and appropriate sex offender registry and monitoring services that promote community safety and protection of victims, citizens and the public. Funding will be used for training and technical assistance to improve programmatic and data management systems; incorporate pueblo-specific elements that address cultural concerns and provide guidance; improve collaboration and coordination and increase the quality and quantity of resources the pueblo can use to maintain local and national SORNA standards and recidivism; establish education and awareness strategies for pueblo leadership, tribal and non-tribal partners, community, citizens, and the public to increase understanding about the SORNA program; and enhance access and use of national data systems NSORS, TTSORS, TAP, and Amber Alert to support local response initiatives for education, services and resources by the pueblo’s justice systems, programs and citizens.
