FY 22 AWA Grant Program: Mississippi Department of Public Safety

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety will use grant funds to purchase two vehicles, which will be assigned to the Mississippi Sexual Offender Registry Unit. The vehicles will be used to aid in conducting absconder investigations, so the swift apprehension of these fugitives is imperative. These vehicles will also be used for transport to and from SOR training conducted statewide, community outreach, and education for law enforcement personnel, courts, and prosecutors. Mississippi has 12,886 sex offenders as of today, 1/24/2023. In addition, grant funds will support a statewide symposium for all Mississippi Sheriff’s offices and criminal justice agency personnel responsible for sex offender registration.
