Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $400,000)
The Virgin Islands Department of Justice (VIDOJ) will use grant funding to support the salaries of staff who continue to implement SORNA policies, as well as provide training for staff and inter-island travel needed to complete interjurisdictional SORNA compliance activities. VIDOJ’s Sex Offender Registry Program will work to maintain the territory’s status of having substantially implemented the requirements of SORNA. Staff continue to complete address verifications, designate tier assignments for offenders convicted outside of the territory, update the Tribe and Territory Sex Offender Registry System (TTSORS), update the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), collect DNA samples of sex offenders and submit them to the FBI, implement policy updates, and participate in SORNA-related training.
