Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $357,324)

The Quinault Indian Nation’s Law Enforcement Division consists of 21 sworn officers who protect and serve the individuals of our community. We currently only have two full-time Probation Officers employed by QIN, who oversee 176 criminal probationers, and 14 registered sex offenders, and 230 active cases which include random drug testing. The Quinault Indian Nation have successfully completed two previous SMART awards and maintained one staff position. SMART funding has allowed the tribe to implement, plan and continue to develop the sex offender registry program. The SORNA’s public safety benefits (examples include, but are not limited to, the Act’s general and specific deterrent effects, its effect on law enforcement’s ability to prevent crime, and its effect on the public’s ability to protect itself).
