Daniel Rappaport is a grants management specialist in the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs. Mr. Rappaport supports the management of numerous awards under SMART Office grant programs, including the Adam Walsh Act Implementation Grant Program and Keep Young Athletes Safe.
Prior to joining the SMART Office, Mr. Rappaport was a senior grants management specialist for the District of Columbia’s Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants (OVSJG). He managed local and federal awards that supported crime victim services in the district. Alongside Mr. Rappaport’s role as a senior grants management specialist, he also served as the district administrator for the federally funded STOP Violence Against Women grant program.
Prior to his time at OVSJG, Mr. Rappaport served as American University’s (AU) first sexual assault prevention coordinator. There, he developed a program on sexual assault prevention for the University and led training sessions for staff and students on relevant issues (e.g., sexual violence, bystander intervention and sexual harassment). Additionally, as AU’s acting victim advocate, he provided critical and confidential support for students impacted by sexual violence, dating violence or stalking.
Mr. Rappaport earned a B.A. in Psychology and certificate in Women’s Studies from the University of Maryland College Park and a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College.
