This program is a critical component of SORNA's scheme to provide a comprehensive national sex offender registration and notification system. With a single query from any internet connected device, NSOPW.gov enables law enforcement and the public to search state, territory and tribal public sex offender registries for public sex offender data. NSOPW.gov operates similarly to a search engine and uses web services to access registered sex offender information directly from individual jurisdictions.

SMART FY 2023 Invitation to Apply — Keep Young Athletes Safe

This program will fund the development and implementation of a program that aims to safeguard amateur athletes through the prevention of sexual, physical and emotional abuse in the athletic programs of the United States Olympic Paralympic Committee, each national governing body and each Paralympic sports organization. Through the program, new training materials are developed and tested to identify, investigate and educate about the prevention of sexual, physical and emotional abuse in amateur athletic programs, and ongoing and comprehensive training is provided.

This program assists states, the District of Columbia, principal territories and certain federally recognized Indian tribes with developing and enhancing programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) (34 U.S.C. section 20901 et seq.). SORNA was enacted to provide a comprehensive set of minimum standards for sex offender registration and notification in the United States. SORNA requires jurisdictions to maintain a sex offender registry and for sex offenders to register and maintain a current registration.

In summary, SORNA requires: (1) all States, the District of Columbia, the principal U.S. territories, and participating federally recognized Indian tribes to maintain a sex offender registry; and (2) sex offenders to register and maintain a current registration in each jurisdiction where the offender resides, is an employee, or is a student.
